Further detail on examinations from the exam board can be found here.

We will use the students current flight path in terms of grading to decide whether to start them off on Higher Tier or Foundation Tier.  Most students start off on Higher Tier.  Tiers of assessments can be changed more than once up until the March before the GCSE examinations.

Revision in class is completed at the end of each topic as well as ahead of each assessment point.  Any Edexcel revision guide will work for home but there are some suggestions below:

We have also designed a science revision hour for students in year 10 and 11 to help support with their revision. A different topic is set each week on Go4Schools and checked by their class teachers. The hour will include the following:

  1. RECALL - Filling in as much information as they can remember on a topic from memory. (10 minutes)
  2. NOTES – Watching GCSE Pod videos teaching a topic and making notes as part of this. (30 minutes)
  3. QUIZZING – Using cover, write and check to test themselves on the material they have just learnt. (10 minutes)
  4. TESTING – Without notes completing GCSE Pod quiz questions from memory. (10 minutes)

We also run targeted intervention sessions after school for year 11 students who we think would benefit from some additional science teaching. The students invited to these sessions are updated after each assessment.
